The Lucifer Complex
Maria José Martins de Azevedo
€15.00
The Lucifer Complex is a literary exploration of the existential condition of contemporary man. [...]
The narrator who confesses here, laying bare his torn soul and his inner decadence, embodies the paradigm of this Luciferian consciousness, from which contemporary man can scarcely free himself. The text is a lucid and unflinching confession, while also serving as a warning cry against the haunting fog of madness that torments and imperils the destiny of humanity and the course of its history.
In the second part of the book, the reader encounters two essays on the practice of bullfighting, written twenty years apart. These essays continue the reflection on Lucifer’s place in the life of contemporary man by examining a profane yet ritualistic practice embodied in the fiesta taurina of the Hispanic tradition. The symbolic spectacle of the fiesta, as an archaic representation of feelings of passion and hatred driven to their utmost paroxysm, stands as a sign of Lucifer’s presence in the modern and contemporary world: the unsettling presence of a shadow from the past that has crossed the centuries and reached our own time unscathed, spreading and exalting perfidy and barbarism.
